HTML not XML

This is a supporting document mentioned in the following www-talk post:

It shows that you can't reliably sniff for XML documents sent as
text/html. This document is HTML, not XHTML. Yet the W3C validator
incorrectly assumed it was XHTML. The validator has since been
corrected to treat this as HTML 4.0 Strict:

This is an even more pathological case that is also valid HTML, and
which even the new validator incorrectly assumes is XHTML.
